Aura Brushed has been open for one year now and the feelings that come to mind for Yusuf and I are how grateful and blessed we are! Yusuf and I launched Aura Brushed in February 2017 and we are so happy to have launched a business that is making women look and feel beautiful right here in our community. For the past year I have spent my days learning how to perfect my craft, better run my business, satisfy customers, network efficiently and be the best version of me that I can for Aura Brushed. I will continue to perfect my craft and expand my knowledge as long as Aura Brushed is around! My goal is to provide the best service you can find in Houston for Airbrush makeup and Airbrush tanning.
Yusuf and I hope that we are inspiring other women and men to get out there and contribute a reputable business to the community while doing what they love! If you have a passion in life all I have to say is, Channel that passion and don’t give up on it, don’t compare your passion to someone else’s, don’t be discouraged when someone doesn’t like your enthusiasm for your passion. Most importantly, always give credit where it is due and never think you are too good to learn something new or that you are too good to treat someone with respect and kindness.

Are you feeling like you have done every romantic or neat valentines gift out there? Looking for some fresh ideas? Check out a list of 10 things my partner and I have done for each other over the past 5 valentines. Number 10 is our valentines fail!
1. Yusuf got me diamond earrings in a cupcake from Sprinkles. I absolutely loved this beautiful and delicate gift. Not to the mention he got me the best flavor! Red velvet and cream cheese frosting.
2. I cooked Yusuf a breakfast one year and folded the turkey bacon into the shape of a heart and secured it with a toothpick and baked it. When I came home from work he had dinner cooked and rose petals from the door to the bedroom with chocolates and stuffed animals on the bed. Sometimes it’s the little things!
3. There is a website called carbonfibergear.com and I love to get neat things from here for Yusuf. My best purchase from here was a wallet that has a super strong magnet.
4. If your partner is in the corporate world you can go for an always needed gift like cuff links or a computer bag. (Both of these I have done for Yusuf and they were a hit. Cufflinks for valentines and computer bag for Christmas.)
5. One year I got Yusuf a ice cream cake from Baskin-Robins and had them write a inside joke on top with icing. You could request “Be my Valentine” or “My Love”. In Yusuf’s words “that one took the cake.”
6. One year Yusuf got me a really nice wallet. In my opinion every woman should have at least one nice wallet. Guess I found a keeper!
7. There was a year when we decided to plan valentine’s day together. We didn’t get each other expensive gifts. All we did was book a couple’s massage, movie at ipic theatre, and a nice dinner. This was one of my favorites because we spent the day relaxing with each other and enjoying each other.
8. I made Yusuf a coupon booklet. I laugh when I think back on this one but it was cute. You can find any template online and print it out. The booklets vary from subjects to date nights, sexy ideas, get out of dishes coupon for example. You could make your own with a combination of subjects!
9. If you and your partner have been together for a long time then upgrading jewelry is always a beautiful gift. For newer couples this could be a time to gift a promise ring or diamond necklace to that special someone. Yusuf gave me a promise ring on one of our early valentines and it was such big moment for our relationship establishing that commitment.
10. We have had a couples of fails on our valentine’s gifts as well. One year I bought Yusuf a bunch of candy with a cute idea in mind and my little dog ate most of the candy… don’t worry, she survived and I just looked bad on valentines. One year Yusuf ordered a pair of earrings online for me and they ended up being really cheaply made and just terrible… he apologized and I keep them in my jewelry box for the good laugh. So, this one is a reminder that valentine day isn’t about the gift you give or receive. It is about spending the day with that one person you don’t want to go a day without.
It's almost a whole month into the new year and I’m curious as to how everyone’s goals are going! Did you do dry January, 30-day fit challenge, reading challenge, or stick to your same old ways? Well, whatever your goals are I hope you are crushing them! This year my goal is to keep consistency with all of my projects and routines. Sometimes this is hard for us because, well life. So, with all the life we have going on how do we find time for ourselves this year? Simple, make yourself a priority! Give yourself the little treats in life that keep you sane.
What are my treats that keep me sane? I’m glad you asked! My first treat is always a spray tan because it is the fastest pick me up out there. I treat myself to skincare and bubbles baths. My favorite treat though is date nights with my honey. These are the simple little things I like to do for myself because they make me feel good and when I feel good I spread more positivity.
So, whatever your goals are this year, remember to make yourself a priority. The little things you do for yourself are important. If its a quick 15 minute appointment or just sitting in the Starbucks drive thru in quite while you get your coffee to go. Your treats should bring you happiness! I hope you enjoyed this blog post and feel a bit more uplifted or inspired to pencil yourself in on your own schedule. Talk to you guys next month!
I’m sure you’re seeing these photos and thinking to yourself: “Oh my gosh... what is that!? This has happened to me! This is why I’m scared to spray tan!” Rest assured, my client did not leave my salon looking like this! I wanted to take a quick moment to explain why this happened and how it can be fixed.
My client did everything she was supposed to do before her spray tan. She showered, shaved, and exfoliated. She put on her loose dress and came with no deodorant or moisturizer/lotions on her skin. So why would this happen? My client washed her body with a thick cream body wash less than two hours prior to her spray tan. By doing this the body wash created a barrier of moisturizer on her skin, preventing any spray tan from being allowed to penetrate the top layer of skin. Now this was a lesson learned and she expressed how grateful she was that I knew how to fix this oops!
Accidents happen – it’s important to know how to fix them! I always keep buffers in my salon to even out and correct any errors in the tan. In this situation I grabbed my buffer and simply pushed the solution into the client’s skin. I did not rub the buffer across the tan at all. This allowed the buffer to really push the solution through the barrier while removing solution that would not penetrate the skin. You will notice that any heavy dark marks will now be blended. I then went back over this area with my airbrush gun to make sure the color is completely even. MAGIC! All fixed! Stay tuned for another post on how to fix this if it happens at home.
I hope you guys enjoyed this post and learned something new! Please feel free to leave any comments or questions!
This is a question I get asked A LOT and I am happy to have a in depth blog post for you!
First things first, what is exfoliating and why is it important? Exfoliating a process where you rub your skin with some kind of scrub, loofah or rag to remove old skin (dead skin cells). Exfoliating PRIOR to a spray tan is important because you are guaranteeing your spray tan the longest life span. 5-7 days.
The spray tan solution should be applied to fresh clean exfoliated skin. As your skin cells cycle, the tan will shed off with your dead skin naturally. Sometimes clients and myself will experience times where our spray tan may stick to certain parts of our body. This happens mostly when we have had spray tans back to back and our skin is telling us to take a week off to fully remove all old tan (which is actually dead skin that you can only see because of the tan.) This is where I hope my personal exfoliation process comes in handy for anyone experiencing a stubborn spray tan.
Let’s talk about my personal exfoliating process. I must admit, when your done you will feel like you just left the spa, except you did all the hard work! Follow this up with a nap and then you will feel like you left the spa. I start the exfoliation process of my skin usually on day 5-6 of my tan. This way I can spray again right away for any upcoming events. I begin with either a hot bath or shower. The bath will offer better end results but a shower can get the job done too. (The bath is highly recommended if you are trying to remove spray tans from past 4-6 weeks). I start with filling the tub up with hot water, about as hot as I can stand it. Some may think this sounds unpleasant but once you soak in the hot water for about 5 minutes you are so relaxed, muscles and brain. Soaking in hot water will also open up your pores which is exactly what you want to exfoliate. I add in some type of bath salt. My skin care products are always rotating but my top two favorites right now are Epsom Salt Milk & Honey scent, this smell really helps me feel relaxed. The other product is a Fizzy Bath Dust from the company Lather Me Up. I discovered Lather me up at the Chimney Rock Market, they are a small local business that makes bath soaps, bombs, fizzy dust and more. (Fizzy dust is just like a bath bomb but not molded into a ball and cheaper than a bath bomb!) you can find these products at www.lathermeup.com
After I have soaked in a hot bath with some type of bath salt I grab my handy dandy wash rag. (I recommend a white one so you can see the tan you are removing and using an older one is better because they are coarser.) I recommend starting at your feet and working your way up, use the rag and scrub your skin up and down and then in circular motions where the tan is proving to be difficult. Once you have scrubbed your skin toe to head then we start our shaving process. Grab your favorite razor (mine are the Bic standard razors) and shaving cream or gel and begin to shave everywhere desired.
Once you have soaked, scrubbed and shaved go ahead and look over your skin to make sure all of the tan looks like it is removed. I recommend focusing behind your knees on your armpits, neck, ankles, back of the arms and under the breast. If you see any stubborn spots remaining take your wash rag and scrub a tad more. (You could even use a sugar scrub of some kind after shaving to really pamper yourself. Tree Hut is a brand sold in Ulta and grocery stores, etc. that offers sugar scrubs I like in all different scents.) If this doesn’t budge then grab yourself a pumice. I love my pumice and use it specifically on my feet, wrists, hands and palms. By the end of this 4-step process you should not have any spray tan left on you. For your back you can have your husband/partner scrub your back or you can pick up a back scrubber from CVS or local beauty store.
When I have completed the steps above I jump in the shower to wash my hair and body then I step out and make sure to moisturize. I will go over moisturizers in another blog later this month. Please remember to moisturize your skin after doing this deep scrub. This will help your skin feel its most soft!
That is my exfoliation process, I really hope you enjoyed this read and got some tips to try out in the future.

April is finally here! One of my favorite months, and for many reasons! One of those reasons is this is my anniversary month with my life partner Yusuf. April is also the month that finally kick starts spring here in Texas. Texas will start to have cooler weather, pastels are in season, the wildflowers are popping up everywhere! It’s just a fabulous month! I wanted to type up some of my beauty and skin care tips for this month to share with you guys. I hope you enjoy! I have attached links to each product at the bottom of the blog for you!
Skin: Currently I have been loving the Tarte cosmetics Frxxxtion stick 3-in-1 exfoliating cleanser. I use this product about twice a week and a little goes a long way when you use this just for cleaning & exfoliating. The bonus part about this product? You can also apply a thicker amount of product to your face and neck then allow the product to sit and you have a mask! I usually leave mine on for about 10 minutes and then I rinse it off gently and pat dry with a face towel. I instantly have this super soft and glowing skin. This product sells for $22 and it is 1.0 Oz! Let’s be honest now, we have all spent way more money on 1.0 Oz of skincare. At least I have, shh don’t tell Yusuf.
Makeup: This may not be entirely what your expecting as far as makeup goes, BUT it is an amazing product. I am currently in love with taking my makeup off with Clinique “take the day off” makeup removing wipes. This product made me breakup with my old makeup remover (Neutrogena wipes 25 per pkg and cost $8-$9 at CVS, Walmart, Target) AND it cost more! Wait, don’t keep scrolling! Let me explain. The Clinique face wipes are much more soft on my skin and eyes. I no longer feel like I’m irritating my eyelids and lash line from a rough cloth. I can use one wipe to remove a full face of makeup! (not including a liquid lip) The wipes are unscented, so there is no harsh smell that is overwhelming or makes your eyes burn! I love this product and will continue to use it as long as Clinique continues to carry it. The price is $15 and I purchase mine at my local Sephora. They are also carried in Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. It gets better though! There are 50 wipes per package and you can actually reseal the package so your wipes wont dry out! This means you won’t have to drive to the store to pick up more as often.
Hair: LIVING PROOF Perfect Hair Day night cap overnight perfector. Cost is $28 for 4 FL oz. That’s a lot of product for $28 in my opinion! We all know the hair rule and if you don’t then spoiler alert. Its best to wash your hair once to twice a week. Yes, you still shower just wear a hair cap and blow dry whatever gets wet afterward! This product will help your hair look its best in between shampoos. I use this product after I wash my hair applying a dime size amount in my hand, rub it together and then through my hair. Ill then tie or braid my hair back and then go to sleep. This product will help your hair be more manageable during the week as well as putting some shine in those locks!

What is a Spray Tan?
A Spray Tan is a type of sunless application. There are many ways to achieve a faux glow, my favorite is a custom airbrush tan. This sunless tan is achieved by having a trained professional apply a controlled mist of solution to your body.
DHA:
The active ingredient in sunless tanning is DHA. DHA is approved for cosmetic use through the FDA to be applied externally to the human body. Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) is the active ingredient that will react with your bodies amino acids and begin a color change in the epidermis (top layer of skin).
Cosmetic Bronzer:
After your sunless airbrush tan, you will notice immediate color. This is a cosmetic bronzer and often what we notice in the water after the first shower. It is important to not panic when you see this cosmetic bronzer wash off. You did not lose your tan. Actually, while you had the cosmetic bronzer on the DHA was very busy causing a chemical reaction to your skin. Once you pat dry from your shower you will see you are still tan. This is what we call a seamless transition. The seamless transition is achieved when you are sprayed with a cosmetic bronzer to appear tan and after the shower you are still the same shade of tan.
Lifespan:
Now because DHA is only changing the top layer of the skin it is important to know that this is only a temporary tan. Why you ask? The spray tan only affects the top layer of skin, and that skin exfoliates weekly. There for an average spray tan will last 5-7 days. I do believe that a spray tan can hold onto the skin in certain areas for up to two weeks, causing a "patchy" look. This is not uncommon to see on the neck, armpits, and bikini line. I always suggest to my clients describing this to take one week off of spray tanning to allow their body to fully exfoliate. This will ensure that the next tan is being applied to the freshest layer of skin allowing the tan to have a full 5-7-day life span. I also recommend after spraying for 4-6 weeks to take one - two weeks off and focus on exfoliating and moisturizing the skin to get the body ready for the new cycle of spray tans. Spray Tanning is a lifestyle and you must maintain healthy skin to guarantee yourself a smooth spray tan regardless if it is a custom airbrush, machine spray, self-tanner etc.
Solutions:
Aura Brushed does not provide a "cookie cutter" tan where all clients will be sprayed with the same solution. We offer a range of different solutions to accommodate different skin types and tones. Aura Brushed highly recommends a trial tan prior to tanning for any event. We want to ensure you have been color matched properly with a solution that will provide the most flawless tan for you.
